With a name which has ancient and ancestral origins, MALAKKAI (from Hebrew “My messenger”) is a street artists that comes from Spain and at the moment lives in Girona. He draws since he was a child, perhaps because he did not have playstation or video games and he had somehow to “fill in the time”. In 2000, inspired by a street artist he loved a lot, he started painting on the walls in Almeria. His art has never had a connection with the hip hop world or culture. For Malakkai, graffiti can be some sort of therapy because according to him, drawing is a constant personal growth. He prefers to work on the abandoned areas where the walls with their history can lead the artist in his creation. The personal and intimate communication that appears in his drawings when he is at home and he works on paper, transforms itself in a constantly changing relationship when in the open space and when with the other artists he collaborates with.
The most important aspect of his work, is both the relationships that he creates with the artists he worked and works with and the relationships he establishes with the people that get the chance to enjoy his work.
His distinctive characteristic is the dreaming atmosphere in which his characters find themselves. This atmosphere is inspired by the characteristics of oriental cultures and by the characteristics of surrealism. His style, though, is in constant evolution and growth.
